The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sahlgrenska Academy seeks a researcher for research in Perinatal Medicine. The research is conducted at the experimental laboratory of the Centre for Perinatal Medicine and Health localized at the Department of Physiology. The research goal is to perform experimental studies and increase the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms in perinatal brain injury and thereby develop novel strategies for cerebroprotection. We are recruiting a talented and dedicated researcher, who has a genuine interest in Neuroscience and Physiology.
The researcher will join the research group at the Centre for Perinatal Medicine and Health. We have a close collaboration with research groups in London and Paris. The job assignments include animal experiments, histological preparation, immunohistochemistry, RNA preparation, microarray analysis/sequencing, RT-PCR analysis and Western Blot analyses. Visualisation of mitochondria will be done with structured illumination microscopy. Furthermore the job assignments include subcellular fractionation, mitochondrial isolation, respiration measurement, measurement of calcium regulation and production of free radicals in isolated mitochondria and in whole cells. Metabolic measurements will also be performed in live neurons and microglia cells.
The applicant must have a doctoral degree in the appropriate field and have good academic skills in the subject area. The candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a group. Documented experience of laboratory knowledge and proven skills in experimental work on small animals are required. Experience of histological preparation, immunohistochemistry, RNA preparation and RT-PCR analysis and Western Blot is required. Experience from subcellular fractionation, mitochondrial isolation, measurement of mitochondrial respiration, calcium regulation and production of free radicals in isolated mitochondria using Oroboros respirometry. It is an important merit to have experience in measurements of metabolism in neurons and microglia using Seahorse XF technology, and in structured illumination microscopy (ELYRA-SIM). Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
